The free tier
Free is the whole product, not a slice of it.
On your own machine, everything Commission does is free and always will be. There is no capability behind a price, no cap on work, and no limit on how many agents run at once.
The boundary is not a feature list. It is where the record lives.
You move to a paid tier the day a second person or a remote agent needs the same record, and a file on one laptop cannot serve it. Nothing refuses you and no counter runs out — your situation changes, and the product follows it.
What is never sold, at any tier

Straight answers
The four questions this page has to answer.
Every one of them is answerable today, and every answer below is a commitment docs/business-model.md and docs/licensing.md already make.
- What is free forever?
- The entire local product. Every command, unlimited work, unlimited projects and dependencies, unlimited agents running at once, the interfaces your agents use, the local web view, Jira and markdown import, and full export. No account, no key, no telemetry requirement, no expiry, and no trial that turns into anything.
- That list is not a marketing promise, it is docs/business-model.md §2, which is a committed decision and states it permanently.
- What happens when I hit the limits?
- Nothing, because there are none. There is no cap on work, projects or agents, no concurrency limiter in anything you run, and no prepaid balance that halts work at zero. You move to a paid tier the day a second person or a remote agent needs the same record and a file on one laptop cannot serve it — your situation changes, and no counter refuses you.
- This is the one answer worth being sceptical about, so it is worth checking against the “what is never sold” list above: an agent cap and a concurrency limiter are both on it.
- Can I run it on my own machines?
- Today, that is the only way to run it: Commission is a binary and a file on your disk, and the free tier is that, in full. There is nothing to connect to and nothing that phones home.
- A supported deployment for a company — air-gapped, with a contract, an SLA and compliance documents — is the Enterprise tier, and it is not open. It is waiting on the distribution and licensing work named on the card above.
- Whose data is it?
- Yours, and the design makes that structural rather than promised. The record is one SQLite file; export works at every tier, always, and withholding it is on the list of things never sold. Nothing is held back on the way out, and there is no format you cannot read without us.
- Commission itself is proprietary and the repository is private. That is about the software, not about your record — the two are deliberately different things.

Before you plan around this
None of the paid tiers are open yet.
There is no signup, no waiting list you can join today, and no way to give anyone money. The prices above are what Commission will charge, stated now because a buyer evaluating it is entitled to know — not because any of it can be bought.
Hosting has to ship, and accounts with it, before the first paid tier means anything. Each card above names the work it is waiting on, and those names are checkable rather than promises. Until then the free tier is the entire product, and it is genuinely the entire product.
Commission is proprietary software and the repository is private. The source is not published, under any licence.
